The Story of Joe’s Pink Shorts
The pink shorts worn by inmates at Tent City, the famous former jail in Maricopa County, Arizona, became a symbol of the controversial policies and practices of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio, who served as Sheriff of Maricopa County from 1993 to 2017, was known for his tough-on-crime approach to law enforcement and his implementation of controversial programs and policies, including the use of pink underwear for inmates at Tent City.
